The short version: Vaarwater is built to know as little about you as possible.
Route planning stays on your device
The canal map is downloaded to your phone and routes are computed there, not on a server. Your GPS position is used only to draw you on the map and guide you along your route; it never leaves your phone and we never see it.
Your account
Signing in (via Clerk, our authentication provider) stores your e-mail address so your subscription works across devices. We store nothing else about you.
What lives in your browser
Your boat's dimensions and app settings are kept in your browser's local storage, on your device. Deleting the site's data removes them completely.
Ads
The free version may show one advertisement served by Google AdSense. When ads are active, Google may set advertising cookies; see Google's privacy policy for how they are used. The Skipper subscription removes ads entirely.
